Rescue and Recovery
We will be looking at two key turning points in British history during World War 2.
1. The Rescue of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk
2. The Recovery in the Battle of Britain.
Science - Electricity and Light
These are some of the books we will be reading and enjoying in class.
The Dolphin Crossing is set in 1940 at the height of the Second World War, and concerns two boys: John, a boarding school boy, and Pat, an evacuee from a London slum. Together John and Pat make a daring plan to sail a boat across the English Channel to Dunkirk. Foolhardy as their plan may seem, the boys are sure they must do something to help the stranded British soldiers.
'A story of friendship and growth for two teen-aged boys...
Tick, tock, tick, tock! Some stories are like that. Once you've wend them up, nothing will stop them ...A tormented apprentice clock-maker, a deadly mechanical knight in armour - and the sinister Dr Kalmenius, who some say is the devil ...Wind up these characters, fit them into a story on a cold winter's evening, with the snow swirling down, and suddenly life and the story begin to merge in a peculiarly macabre - and unstoppable - way. Almost like clockwork ...
We will be looking at how electricity affects our lives and investigating how circuits work. We will also be looking at how light enables us to see.
