Mrs Slade and the children have worked extremely hard to create this wonderfully immersive classroom. The large scale Cadbury Roses are good enough to eat!
In English, we have started looking at instructional texts. We will be focusing on recipes this week. On Tuesday, children will be making their own pancakes with a variety of toppings and prepare their very own cakes on Thursday. The aim of this week is for children to become familiar with the features of an instructional text so that on Friday, they are able to write their own recipe independently.
In maths, we are returning to addition and Year 1 will begin to use the Singapore methods adopted in class which has been so successful with year 2. This will give year 1 children a deeper understanding of the number system and how it works. For this, all children need to be comfortable with their number bonds to 10.
A lot of children in year 1 and 2 are not returning to school with their reading diaries. It is so important that they are reading daily. If they have already read the book they have, they can read it over and over. This will help build up confidence and fluency in reading. Please write a comment in the comments section.
This week in maths children are continuing to develop their skills and understanding of number. In particular, children will be learning to read, write and recognise numbers in numerals and as words from 0 to 100. Following this, children will begin to learn their number bonds to 10 e.g. 10+0=10, 9+1=10, 8+2=10 etc.
This week we will be concentrating on number and place value in maths. For the majority of year one, that will involve finding one more or one less than any number up to 20.
